Project Sekai The Movie: A Broken Sekai and A Miku Who Can't Sing (2025) is my absolute favourite movie of all time. Naturally I watch it a lot and love to share it with friends as well -- I wanted to ensure the best possible viewing experience, so I've carefully curated a set of improved English subtitles for the entire film as well as for the accompanying Journey to Bloom shorts.

As the filename implies, my subtitles were originally based off the generally excellent WonderCookies release. The most important change I've made is removing the fancy animations from the song lyrics, because those animations don't work in some video players -- in particular, VLC on Android TV fails to render them properly, making the lyrics almost impossible to read. Since I was editing the subs anyway, I've made a number of other improvements:

• All of the honorifics have been restored throughout the film, matching up with what the characters are actually saying. Saki and Kohane especially just sounded wrong without their usual honorifics. This fix also applies to nicknames, such as Leoni Rin saying "Miku-pyon" rather than "Miku-P".
• There were a number of typos and simply incorrect words at various points (Emu saying "tired on overwhelmed" rather than "or", for example), most likely originating from the official English subtitles. I began versioning the subs because I kept finding new typos in repeat viewings that needed fixing, but I believe they have all been corrected at this point.
• The timing of some lines was very slightly off, causing two subtitles to overlap momentarily. This has been addressed and everything is now timed as intended.
• Lyrics are now colorised to match the specific person who's singing them, falling back on the unit colour as in the WonderCookies release when multiple people sing in unison. Note that Gunjō Sanka and Worlders are almost entirely sung by multiple people across all six units, so for those songs I've simply mixed together the six unit colours fairly arbitrarily to give a nice rainbow feel.
• Some of the English translations for lyrics have been swapped out for semantically equivalent lines that have a better sound. For example FUN!! now has cleaner wording for "dream's latest version", The Light That Dwells Here now uses "at 25 o'clock" to match up more closely with "Nightcord at 25:00", and the final line of SToRY has been tweaked to reflect the real word order of the Japanese line.
• The actual lyrics for every song are now included (in romaji) alongside their English translations. This is helpful for singalong viewings!

Similar fixes have been applied where appropriate for the Journey to Bloom subtitles. There are no song lyrics in these shorts, but there were certainly missing honorifics and typos to address.

I highly recommend watching Journey to Bloom first as part of your A Miku Who Can't Sing viewing experience. If you are unfamiliar with Project Sekai's cast of twenty original characters, the Journey to Bloom shorts will help fill that gap; conversely if you are a huge fan of the game already, the Journey to Bloom shorts are an excellent recap of the five mainstories made with the same gorgeous animation as the film you're about to watch. In either case, I believe their inclusion makes for a more complete experience.
